Organizations (both for- and not-for-profit)

211 - 211 is operated by United Way, and serves as a clearinghouse for services.  Simply call 211, tell the operator what you need, and s/he will help you locate the appropriate organization to contact.

The FreeStore

The FreeStore is an all-volunteer organization affiliated with St. Timothy's Eiscopal Church.  although their primary focus is the Children and Families of Iowa Family Violence Center, they do, on occasion, help others.  They fulfill their mission of Helping Families Start Over by providing good used furniture and household items to those who qualify.

Mary Sims is the Distribution Center Manager for the Scooter Store.  They sell scooters to assist seniors with mobility issues.

Start Moving is a new moving service specifically focused on seniors.  Sheryl and her husband Bob have been in the moving business for a number of years.  Her new business helps seniors who are down-sizing.  Once in their new home, she helps with hanging pictures, making beds and generally getting her clients settled.

Lorrie Nagel is the director.  The Senior Center offers a wide variety of activities, from lunches to exercise classes, to discussion groups and card games.  They bring in speakers on various topics, such as safe driving for seniors and butterflies!  There are craft groups and pool tables and a great computer room.
