The Urbandale Caring Corps is a United Way designated donor. If you participate through your employer in the fall United Way drive, you can ask that your donations go to UCC. It’s exciting to report that our pledges for 2008 have doubled what they were in 2007. We invite you to name us as your donor recipient this year.

Wine Tasting Event
A HUGE Success!!
On April 2, 2008, we hosted the first annual wine tasting event to raise funds for the Urbandale Caring Corps. The event was held at the newly remodeled Urbandale Golf and Country Club, and was sponsored by:

We had a great turnout, with approximately 250 people in attendance. Check out the photo gallery to see pictures from the event.
The band, The Sons of Gladys Kravitz was great, and played music we all know and love. Thanks to UG&CC not only for the use of their beautiful facility, but also for providing gracious and efficient wait staff and delicious appetizers! Glazer's Distributing provided the wine for sampling, as well as the experts to explain the different wines and make recommendations. Big Red Q printed our programs and M2K Marketing Group designed the fliers and tickets (thanks to Plaza Printing for printing them!). The silent auction raised significant funds by auctioning off great prizes! Check out the sponsors and donors here.
Finally, we want to thank all the great people at KJJY, KGGO, WHO and KFMG for helping us to promote this great event. We appreciate their community spirit and support!

A huge thank you to all of you who helped support the Adopt-a-Family programs for both Thanksgiving and Christmas!
Last year, Urbandale sponsored 34 families in need at Thanksgiving - this year you supported nearly 50 families!
Last year, Urbandale sponsored 54 families at Christmas - this year, you sponsored
nearly 80 families!
What a tremendous response! On behalf of all the families receiving assistance, thank you. I know many of you had really wonderful experiences with your families.
Now, I would encourage you to fill out your questionnaire, and let us know whether you are willing to help again next year.

Spring Clean-Up 2008
Despite the wet weather, we had a good turn-out for our Spring Clean-up. Families, friends and Boy Scout Troop 316 all showed up to help. Check out the photo gallery to see some of our hard-working neighbors!
A BIG, BIG thank you to Executive Lawn Service for vacuuming up all the leaves and debris the volunteers raked and picked up.

Become a Volunteer!
Our volunteers are the reason we can provide the services we do. These dedicated people run errands, shop for groceries, handle yard work, perform simple maintenance tasks and provide companionship. Become a volunteer - choose the services you are comfortable providing and a schedule that works for you!

Don't forget to check out our resources page! This page has information about various organizations and companies that provide services specifically for seniors. Some are free, some are not. There are senior living facilities, a moving company focusing on the special needs of seniors, providers of everything from "scooters" to shoes! If there's someone you think should be listed, let me know. You'll have to make your own decision as to whether or not a particular service is right for you, but at least we can help you get started!
